January 19, 2012 Bailey’s on Michigan Ave. Gathering

SAVE THE DATE – Thursday January 19, 2012 for a Dearborn Hills Neighborhood Evening at Baileys. We have reserved the “back room” starting at 7pm. Stop by for a few minutes or a few hours; buy a drink or a burger and meet/greet your current DHCA Board and neighbors. Bailey’s Pub & Grille: 22091 Michigan Avenue @ Monroe
At the October general meeting three new officers were elected to the Board of Directors of the Dearborn Hills Civic Association (DHCA). The contact information for the Board is listed on our neighborhood website www.dearbornhills.org . At our October Board meeting we discussed our goals for the year and agreed that our major objectives include: more communications with our neighbors, informal events that bring neighbors together, and improved communications about our deed restrictions. Remember to renew your DHCA membership as your dues fund various neighborhood events and maintain our islands.
Look for monthly e-mails from the DHCA and a quarterly electronic newsletter. An e-mail list is being maintained by the Board and there is also a link on the website to sign up for communications. Your information will remain confidential.
The Directors or Trustees are always glad to hear from you with your comments, input, and suggestions. Our goal is to continue to ensure that Dearborn Hills is a beautiful neighborhood where we all feel like neighbors.
We hope to see you at Bailey’s on January 19!

Combined Sewer Overflow Project and Dearborn Hills Streets

At our Spring 2011 DCHA meeting, Mr. Yunus Patel, City of Dearborn Engineer, provided the status of the proposed CSO solution for West Dearborn which actually takes into consideration the need for new infrastructure and street repair in our neighborhood.

There are two methods of preventing sewer overflow into the Rouge River; retention or separation. Retention basins ( 5 have already been built in Dearborn) were proposed as the original solution but recently it has been decided that separation of water and sewer lines will be more appropriate and cost effective. In order to separate the water and sewer lines the streets will need to be dug up, the sewers replaced and the water mains replaced. Three projects are being planned that impact our neighborhood:

1) East of Telegraph the project will start in Jan 2012 and continue into 2013. The streets in this neighborhood are old and in need of repair. This project will yield new water and sewer lines and rebuilt streets for a cost less than the containment option that has been implemented in other locations in the city.

2) Cherry Hill to Wilson is scheduled for 2014

3) West of Telegraph the streets are still in good shape with an estimated life of 7 years since the year they were replaced. The current plan is to target this area for separation at the time the streets are due to be replaced.

There is a public hearing on this topic on June 21, 2011 at 5pm in the City of Dearborn Council Chambers; more detailed information can be viewed on the city’s website.
